No-exam life insurance

What qualifies under accelerated underwriting, how the process operates, and what happens when you do not meet the criteria.

Today, numerous carriers provide accelerated underwriting: for applicants in specific age and coverage ranges, approval is based on the application, pharmaceutical records, driving history and comparable data—no paramedical exam. Some approvals are issued the same business day. Each quote here indicates whether the carrier will require, might require, or will not require a physical examination.

What it changes

Skipping an exam is different from skipping verification. Your statements are checked, and a policy issued based on false information may be canceled within the first two years. If the carrier's data raises red flags, they might still order an exam or tests; you then decide whether to proceed.

Who tends to qualify

Generally, applicants below age 60 requesting amounts within the carrier's streamlined underwriting threshold, without serious health issues and no tobacco consumption for a year or longer, qualify. Some carriers recognize recent medical visits with lab results as a substitute for an exam.

An exam, if needed, is typically a 20- to 30-minute visit by a medical examiner at your residence or workplace in the Brawley region, at no expense to you. For healthy candidates, exam results sometimes produce a better rate category, so the exam can be beneficial rather than problematic.
